Week of January 22nd

Spelling words: We will have no new spelling word this week… Please practice the past two weeks words to make sure they know theses words.  They are doing amazing at applying these words to their writing.

Writing: We have been busy learning how to edit our stories.  A big thanks to everyone that sent in highlighters, red and yellow pens, and lamps.  We are loving our writing time.

Math: We are starting to focus on clocks and fractions.  (we will be moving to money shortly… money- counting coins is always a hard concept for kids… So if you want to start at home looking at coins to get a head start that would be great!) Please continue to practice addition, subtraction and story problem.  We do a story problem and addition and subtraction everyday during our morning work and the kids are getting amazing… we are still working on making sure we don’t miscount and to check our answers.

Tomorrow is early release at 11:30! If your kiddos go to boys and girls club please text me to let me know how they are going home since boys and girls club will not meet tomorrow.

We have started having Friday CHAMPS assemblies! We have been working on how CHAMPS behave.  I have a class FULL of CHAMPS! The only goal that we are working on right now is what a 1 voice sounds like compared to a 4 voice. (It only happens because they are getting so excited about learning!! At home, if you want to practice the difference this will help when they get so excited! -Though I love their excitement about learning!

I would love to set up conferences with you all if you would like to have a mid year meeting to see where they are and what our new goals are.  If you would like to meet please email me and let me know!  I can meet during my conference time at 1:15-2 everyday except Wednesdays. I can can also do phone conferences if you prefer!  I am so very proud of each of them!!!

New Year!

Hi everyone!!!  Hope you all had a great two weeks of food, fun, family and friends!!!!  I can’t wait to get some hugs in the morning and hear all about the many adventures y’all had.  First of all, I want to thank everyone that had anything to do with our Christmas party, from sending goodies to just being there!  It was awesome and the kids had a blast.   It’s always nice to get to walk around and just enjoy these Firsties.  I would also like to personally thank everyone for spoiling me with such awesome gifts this year!  I feel very special.

Spelling:  The words for the next two weeks will be:  will, each, about, how, up, out, them, then, she, many, This week I will be focusing on the first 5… And on Friday we are going to try something new and take a spelling test on only those 5.  Then the next Friday take a test on the last 5.  Then we will take a week to review all 10 words.  (I am hoping this will help us really understand these words a little more since they are getting harder!)

Phonics:  We will continue working on vowel combinations and dipthongs.  The vowel combinations that follow the rule of 1 vowel does the walking and the other does the talking like; ee, ea, ie, ai.  Dipthongs are the combinations that do not follow that rule like; oi, oy, ow, oo.  We will spend two weeks just focusing on these before moving to nouns.

Math:  We will begin a unit on measurement.  I will introduce vocabulary words like length, bigger than, smaller than, etc…  We will learn how to measure with different tools like cubes, paper clips, measuring worms, etc…  We will learn how to tell how much longer an object is than another.  We will continue with addition and subtraction with modeling and making 10 as well.

Science/Social Studies:  We will learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and all about RESPECT for our CHAMPS Assembly.

As always, thank you so much for all you do for our kiddos and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at any time!!!! EEEEK I can’t believe it is already January!!!!!!!!

Week of December 3rd

Our Christmas party will be on Thursday, December 20th at 9:00.  If you would like to help please let me know 🙂

Spelling words: which, their, said, if, do, will, we, there, can, an, your   Please have fun while practicing these words at home.  There and Their are so tricky for them.  I make a poster with them and I draw a person out of the “i” in their to make the connection with possession, or belonging to a person,  and we link there to a place Where? Over “there”.

Math: We will continue to build up our addition and subtraction strategies and begin to use bigger numbers. You could help us out at home by just asking things like “What is 10 + 1, What is 9-1, If I have 7 and need 11, How many more do I need?  Learning how to tie math into all aspects of life is so good for them, so any time you have a chance to ask them to count something for you or figure out how many days til this or what’s missing kinds of things are awesome!  We are learning how to do a survey, collect data, and create different types of graphs using this information.

Writing:   They are all at different stages of writing which is what makes this time so fun.  We are really focusing on what details we need in a story to make it a great story. Please try to practice handwriting at home 🙂 We have been working really hard on that!

Science/Social Studies:  We will be conducting several science experiments over the next few weeks to keep their attentions!!!  We are also learning about wants vs needs.  I think this is the best time of year to talk about this very important but hard to learn lesson.

If I can ever answer any questions you have or help you out with anything please let me know.  I am having such fun getting to know your sweeties and watching them grow!
